The Child of Two Eyes 🌑⚔️
The night Kael was born became known across the empire as The Crimson Eclipse.
A blood-red moon hung unnaturally low above the mountains while black lightning split the heavens without making a sound. Snow fell in the middle of summer. Rivers stopped moving. Even the animals in the forests fled deeper into the darkness as if the world itself sensed something terrible had entered it.
Hidden high within the mountains stood an ancient temple forgotten by most of the empire. The monks living there had protected forbidden knowledge for centuries — prophecies too dangerous for ordinary people to know. That night, every priest inside the temple gathered around a single room where a young woman struggled to give birth while the building shook violently around them.
The moment the child was born, every candle in the chamber extinguished at once.
Silence filled the room.
Then the baby slowly opened his eyes.
His left eye glowed crimson red, burning like living fire beneath the darkness. Ancient texts called it the Eye of Ruin, a cursed eye feared for its connection to destruction, rage, and uncontrollable power.
But his right eye caused even greater terror.
A deep violet eye surrounded by a thin eclipse-shaped ring. The legendary Eclipse Eye — an eye spoken about only in hidden scriptures. According to legend, anyone born with that eye could hear the whispers beneath the world and command the shadows themselves.
No one had possessed both eyes together in over a thousand years.
An elderly prophet immediately collapsed to his knees, trembling uncontrollably.
"The Shadow King has returned..."
Panic spread through the temple. Some priests wanted the child killed immediately before the prophecy could unfold. Others believed the boy might save the empire from an even greater darkness. But before any decision could be made, alarms echoed through the mountain halls.
Imperial soldiers had arrived.
The emperor himself had learned rumors of the child's birth and ordered the temple destroyed before sunrise.
Steel doors shattered. Flames spread through sacred corridors. Priests were slaughtered trying to defend the newborn. Kael's mother wrapped the baby in dark cloth and escaped through hidden tunnels beneath the temple while screams echoed behind her.
Outside, snow mixed with ash as the mountains burned red beneath the eclipse.
Wounded and barely able to stand, she carried the child through the storm until she reached a tiny village hidden below the cliffs. There she found a poor farmer returning home before dawn.
Begging him with tears in her eyes, she placed the baby into his arms.
"Please... don't let the empire find him..."
Before disappearing back into the fire above the mountains, she whispered one final warning:
"Never let him see the red moon."
That same night, while the baby slept quietly inside the farmer's home...
the shadows beneath his crib slowly began moving on their own.
